Philly Equine Partners
Founded in 2012, Philly Equine Partners embodies social worker, Brigette Potgieter’s, vision for a just world with her passion for horses, nature, and psychotherapy.
Our Mission: to nurture the innate capacity for joy, compassion, and healing of horses and humans, through mutually respectful equine experiential programs grounded in innovative psychological theory and practice.
Philly Equine Partners is home at Manderley Farm, located in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, 30minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Eliza Walbridge nurtures this farm, which has been in her family for generations. Manderley is a place of healing, kindness, and compassion. A small, vibrant herd of horses partner in our work.
Brigette is a Pennsylvania Licensed Clinical Social Worker whose career has spanned over twenty-five years; providing social and emotional health services for children, youth, families, and adults in residential treatment facilities, supported community living, inpatient, and outpatient settings, schools, and homes. As an equine assisted therapy practitioner, she is a certified in The HEAL Model™ and served as a Designated HEAL Instructor from 2013-2015 under the mentorship of HEAL founder, Leigh Shambo. Brigette is a member of the development team and teaching faculty of One Heart Wild’s ROOTS Institute, which offers comprehensive equine experiential learning, psychotherapy, and equine welfare advocacy training.
Brigette maintains a private office-based therapy practice in Jenkintown at JPA Center for Integrative Health. Many clients benefit from a blend of traditional talk therapy in the office and experiential equine-assisted therapy at the farm.
“I take an eclectic approach to equine assisted therapy, weaving together cognitive and somatic-based therapies to guide insight and support shifts in ways-of-being for a client, as they relate to their larger than life teacher – the horse.”
“Brigette is truly a skilled therapist with a talent for helping people to grow and learn with the help of horses. Her style combines honesty and insight, gentle wisdom with people and with horses, and a mindful approach to living and healing. Brigette has a good breadth and depth of clinical experience and is very trustworthy in both office and equine-facilitated therapy with individuals and families.” –Leigh Shambo, Founder/Director, Human-Equine Alliances for Learning & Psychotherapy (HEAL).
